Our Story

It's 1996 and Ray decides to leave his head chef position and joins Dairy Crest as a roundsman. What was meant to be a short break while looking for his next career move in catering, turned out to be a 14 year love affair with working outdoors and serving the community. His level of perfection from his previous career shone through and was awarded the depots 'milkman of the year' accolade on 7 occasions.

Dairy Crest went online as 'Milk and More' launched, becoming a franchise to protect his top round. Over time, Ray noticed Milk and More was falling short of his own high standards towards the customer and their needs. Feeling let down, Ray made the big decision to 'go it alone' in 2010, selling his car, motorbike and collectables to raise enough money to start his own business. From humble beginnings, Griffin Dairies was born.

Working out of an industrial upright fridge in his garage, his round very slowly started growing. To make ends meet, Ray also worked the mornings as a postman, and then did warehouse work later in the day. Working 6 days a week for 2 years until finally, he could drop the extra work and fully concentrate on his milk business.

Renting fridge space from a bigger dairy, Griffin Dairies continued to grow until Ray needed help to cope with the level of customers. Daniel (Dan) his eldest son came on board in 2014. This allowed some much needed days off while the expanding business continued. This year proved to be a big year for Griffin Dairies as they moved into their very first premises of their own.

The business was flourishing; 2016 saw a major expansion as Mike joined the company, allowing the birth of a new round and a great working team. All members were thriving for excellent customer service, with high standards instilled from the very beginning. Bringing value for money to their customers was the forefront in everything they did.

Following a move to their current bigger premises in 2019, Covid hit, bringing an influx of temporary new calls and Griffin Dairies flourished. However, with the new business came the unforeseen problem of non payers, which, along with no new canvassed calls once Covid was over, brought Griffin Dairies to the brink in 2021.

Through hard work and sacrifices from the whole team, they came through a turbulent time in their history. 2023 saw delivery day changes, allowing new rounds to be created. As the business continues to hold their own against the multi million pound leading company, the ethos of outstanding customer service and value for money is still the driving force to their success 14 years on.
